Bands come and go but pub bands go on for ever - maybe it's the lure of the
beer, or the smell of the bar meals, but it's more likely the gutsy, unadulterated
rhythm & blues music that these bands ply as their stock in trade.
Despite their name's tenuous links with a war fought over a cold island in the
South Atlantic, The Belgranos are no exception, playing straight forward gutsy
music that is not only great listening, but great to get up and dance to.
In these days of obsession with production quality, fruity loops, MIDI, and
"make me a star" TV shows, here are four guys who really work their
instruments until they bleed - no fancy gizmos here - just the raw and highly
energetic time proven formula of classic Rhythm & Blues tunes. Pub bands
are about atmosphere - and this band creates one hell of an atmosphere.
You can't capture what this band does live on a CD, for that you have to go
see them, hear them, and experience a real live R&B band playing music you
can't sit down to.
It's
excellent stuff and right up my street; the Belgranos are a fine, feel-good
high-class good-time rocking-boogie-blues covers band.
(I think I got the lot in there.)
